Science Behind the New and Improved Transparent Labs BULK Pre-Workout

Updates to Transparent Labs BULK Pre-Workout: What We Improved Upon

As part of Transparent Labs' continual pursuit of delivering industry-leading supplements that are founded on science and clinical studies, the PreSeries BULK formula has recently been upgraded with several key ingredients, such as AlphaSize® Alpha-GPC, Infinergy™ Di-caffeine malate, Astragin™, electrolytes, and B vitamins. We are also ecstatic with how the new flavor profile turned out (it's quite a joyride for the taste buds if we may so).

This article will fill you in on the specific improvements made to the formula and a little bit about the science of the new ingredients.

PreSeries BULK V2 Key Formula Improvements

You'll be happy to know that the new PreSeries BULK still contains 20+ grams of active ingredients per serving. It remains a vegan-friendly, non-GMO product free of artificial food coloring, artificial sweeteners, preservatives, fillers, and harsh stimulants that do nothing but detract from workout performance.

Our goal with the original BULK formula was to craft a pre-workout for athletes, bodybuilders, and gym-goers who actively strive to pack on lean muscle mass and increase strength. The new BULK formula still accomplishes that, but more effectively thanks to some essential ingredient additions and substitutions.

What Stays the Same in BULK V2

First, let's briefly cover the things we did not change from the original BULK formula:

  • Clinical doses of 2:1 L-citrulline malate (6,000 mg), BetaPure™ betaine anhydrous (2,500 mg), beta-alanine (4,000 mg), instantized vegan 2:1:1 BCAAs (4,000 mg), and taurine (1,300 mg). These are the foundational, evidence-based nitric oxide (NO) boosters, muscle cell volumizers, and strength-driving ingredients in this formula, so we did not alter them when revising BULK (123456).
  • Each serving of the new formula still features bioavailable zinc amino acid chelate (30 mg), boron citrate (3 mg), and vitamin D3 (75 mcg) for their testosterone-supporting effects (789). In turn, these vitamins and minerals have a positive impact on muscle hypertrophy, recovery, and athletic performance.
  • BULK V2 also retains the original 2:1 ratio of L-theanine (360 mg) to caffeine anhydrous (180 mg) that's supported by several cognitive function studies in humans (101112).

Upgrades to BULK V2

Okay, so now let's talk about how we improved upon the original BULK formula with innovative ingredient additions and upgrades:

  • We removed Mucuna pruriens, synephrine HCl, hordenine, choline bitartrate, and L-norvaline. We felt these were unnecessary and less likely to confer desirable outcomes than tried-and-true mental performance-enhancers such as caffeine and alpha-GPC. Therefore, we added long-lasting Infinergy™ di-caffeine malate (30 mg), AlphaSize® alpha-GPC (300 mg), and theobromine (50 mg) to promote mental acuity, enhance focus, and reduce levels of perceived exertion while training (131415).
  • We swapped acetylated L-tyrosine for native L-tyrosine (1,000 mg) as the latter is more effectively absorbed across the blood-brain barrier, according to recent research (16). This leads to better dopamine synthesis, which plays a vital role in vigilance and motivation during your workouts.
  • Choline bitartrate was upgraded to patented AlphaSize® alpha-GPC to enhance the bioavailability of choline (17). Alpha-GPC has pronounced benefits for cognitive function and athletic performance by boosting acetylcholine transmission and peak power during explosive movements (1819).
  • While we love BioPerine® in certain applications to improve ingredient bioavailability, we felt Astragin™ (25 mg) was the better fit in the new BULK formula. Astragin™ is a trademarked ingredient and novel botanical extract of both Panax notoginseng and Astragalus membranaceus, which have longstanding history as adaptogenic herbs (20)The constituents in these plants are suggested to selectively increase the absorption of molecules by enhancing intestinal permeability (21). AstraGin™ is favorable in this particular pre-workout formula as it bolsters ingredient uptake without inhibiting liver enzymes like BioPerine®.
  • Vitamins B6 (5 mg) and B12 (100 mcg) were added due to their ubiquitous and synergistic nature as homocysteine regulators (22). Elevated blood homocysteine levels are associated with poor circulation and neurological damage, so these B vitamins are crucial not only for proper blood flow and performance in the gym but also for general health and longevity (23).
  • Modest doses of sodium (150 mg) and potassium (100 mg) are now included to support electrolyte balance and hydration during training.

If you're wondering why we did not add creatine to the new PreSeries BULK, it's because we suggest taking creatine post-workout. The current body of evidence makes it clear that creatine is better absorbed after exercise (20). As such, we offer a standalone creatine monohydrate supplement with Creapure® and HMB.

Our Best-Tasting Pre-Workout Supplement

While the original BULK formula made for an exceptional pre-workout, there were some areas that we felt needed refining. Notably, the flavor profile wasn't as great as we thought it could be. It was "okay," but we wanted to make it a mouthwatering experience that customers look forward to before every workout.

After months of organoleptic testing and tuning the flavoring, we finally landed on what we consider to be the best-tasting natural pre-workout on the market. Remember, BULK is a vegan-friendly product, so there are no artificial sweeteners, preservatives, or food dyes. We use stevia and natural flavoring to achieve a desirable taste for the senses.

BULK V2 still comes in a variety of delicious fruit flavors, including:

  1. Blue Raspberry
  2. Tropical Punch
  3. Orange
  4. Strawberry Lemonade
