Look for ingredients on the label that have been scientifically shown to improve muscle building, fat burning, and overall exercise performance to ensure you're taking an effective supplement. Watch out for L-carnitine, creatine, caffeine for instant energy, and testosterone if necessary.

Although it is not recommended, you can take pre-workout vitamins ten minutes before to beginning your workout. It is advised to take the supplement around half an hour before working out to give it time to be completely absorbed.

Pre-workout supplements typically have effects that last 1.5 to 2.5 hours, but depending on the substances and doses, they can last up to 5 hours. Your pre-workout consumption should ideally be timed to peak after you've completed warming up for your workout.

Every three to six months, take a one to two week sabbatical from stimulant-based pre-workouts to restore tolerance. You don't have to stop using stimulant-free choices, though.
